Artisan crafts Atütü, the indigenous bamboo trumpet of Pochury Nagas. A special species of bamboo is used in the making of the trumpet by the expert craftsman. The instrument is made up varying components fitted together to create the trumpet like shape. It is played to mark special occasions. Blowing the trumpet starts towards the end of February to herald and announce the advent of Nazhü festival. Atütü is played by male members of the morung in the evenings throughout the festival. The trumpet also serves as a warning signal to ward of birds and animals in the rice fields, to alert the collective habitat when enemies attack and also to signal the declaration to wage war.
