Kohima, July 31 (MExN): The Angami Students' Union (ASU) has condemned the GPRN/NSCN (Khango) group for its recent threat of capital punishment against the proprietor of KKB Kilho. In a press release, the ASU described the actions of the group as "barbaric" and called for the preservation of peace and unity in the Naga homeland.
The statement issued by the ASU emphasized their respect for the sacrifices made by Naga national workers in pursuit of the Naga cause but criticized the behavior of the GPRN/NSCN (Khango) group. "We supremely honor the sacrifices of our national workers and revere their commitment for the Naga cause," the press release stated. However, it pointed out that "the dastardly act of few individuals or groups such as the GPRN/NSCN Khango group tarnishes the very fabric of a nation building revolutionary entities."
The union expressed its disapproval of forced taxation and threats of capital punishment, labeling these actions as contrary to the aspirations of the Naga people. "Such contribution should never be under 'Forced taxation' or under the threat of 'Capital Punishment,'" the statement read, adding that the group's actions "in no way represent the aspiration of the Nagas."
It noted that the Angami Youth Organization (AYO) had attempted to resolve the situation peacefully, but the non-compliance of the GPRN/NSCN (Khango) group has led to a resolution of non-cooperation from the AYO. The ASU expressed dismay at the response of the Khango group, describing it as a failure to represent the Naga cause. "The Khango group intimidating the Angami Youth Organization is no less than denouncing the supreme sacrifices of our community towards the Naga political issue," the ASU noted.
In a firm stance against the actions of the GPRN/NSCN (Khango) group, the ASU declared its full support for the AYO and called on citizens to be prepared to defend their rights. The union asserted its commitment to a peaceful and just society, free from the influence of "hooligans" and urged all Naga patriots to stand in solidarity. "The Angami Students' Union cannot allow the 'Gun Culture' to destabilize peace and unity among the Nagas," the statement concluded.
