Peren September 11 (MExN): The ATMA Staff of Peren District, Nagaland went on an interstate staff exposure tour to Gangtok, Sikkim from September 3 to 8. A total of 10 participants comprising of seven Assistant Technology Managers, one Block Technology Manager and two Deputy Project Directors were on board for the trip.
It was stated in a press release that the purpose of the visit was to explore and understand the various agricultural technologies being employed in Sikkim state and also the organic method of production being carried out in the State.
During the visit, the team toured ICAR Research Farm under ICAR National Organic Farming Research Institute, Tadong, Gangtokand visited various units ranging from the Dairy Farm, Piggery Unit, Cardamom Plantation, Plant Breeding Experimental Plot, Post Harvesting Processing Unit, a Horticulture Experimental block where Kiwi was being cultivated, oil extraction unit and an organic cardamom plantation plot. Plastic low tunnel technology was being successfully employed which could raise the temperature by 10 degrees to cultivate vegetables during colder climate and this technology showed promising results in the State. The local chilli of the state was also a delicacy among the people in Sikkim and was reported to fetch a price of Rs 200 per Kg.
The team also toured various landmarks in the district like the flower exhibition centre which showcased various indigenous and ornamental flowers of the state and other landmarks which represent significant cultural importance to the State.
