Awareness on consumer protection at Hornbill Festival

Kohima, December 10 (MExN): In a bid to generate awareness amongst masses on the issue of consumer rights, the Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection (LM&CP), Government of Nagaland organised activities at the venue of the of Hornbill Festival. The department set up a stall to connect with the visitors at the festival.  

Different Information Education Communication (IEC) materials were put up at the venue apart from distributing materials to people who had visited the stall. The department distributed items like T-Shirts, Caps, Pen, Key Chains, labelling “Jago Grahak Jago” and National Consumer Helpline No. 1800 11 4000. Other IEC materials included posters related to MRP, consumer rights, purity, domestic gas, cautionary measures of terms and conditions of any contract and details of consumer forums to seek redressal for any grievances when ever needed. Leaflets and booklets containing information related to consumer education were also distributed.  

Looking at the environmental aspect and keeping in the view that the festival’s venue is a plastic free zone, the organisers displayed the banners made of clothes, roller standees were printed on canvas instead of flex to avoid plastic materials. The visitors appreciated the department for taking eco friendly materials while displaying information on consumer issues like various consumer rights.  

Pukhayi Sumi, Advisor, Department of Food and Civil Supplies, Legal Metrology and consumer protection, NSDMA, Government of Nagaland said Consumer interest is our biggest responsibility and protection of consumer interests is a priority of the government. N Hushili Sema, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection Department, Government of Nagaland interacted with visitors and appealed to be more aware on consumer issues.
