KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 14 (MExN): An awareness programme on OST & HIV-AIDS was held today at Naga Territorial Army Camp, Jakhama.
Dr Keneilhoulie Medom sounded the alarm on the rising tide of addiction among youngsters. He urged the Territorial Army, comprising brave Naga brothers, to take a united stand against the influx of drugs at strategic locations like Khuzama and Moa gate, emphasizing their crucial role in checking this menace.
The camp's location in between the route of the Golden Triangle and Golden Crescent makes it a critical point for monitoring and controlling drug trafficking.
Dr Medom's appeal to the Army was a call to action to protect their community and nation.
Dr Medom encouraged those struggling with addiction within the camp to seek help from the OST Centre at Jakhama PHC, sharing inspiring stories of transformation through Opioid Substitution Therapy.
He also offered support for medicine supply, if needed, demonstrating his commitment to helping those in need.
Col JP Singh stressed the importance of willpower in overcoming addiction and highlighted the Army's contribution to creating a drug-free society, acknowledging the critical role they play in this fight.
Hoketozo Kirha, Program Manager, shed light on HIV prevalence and prevention services available at their doorstep, emphasizing the importance of awareness and proactive measures.
The program, chaired by Kevisenu Natso, Councilor at Jakhama OST centre, concluded with a resounding call to action, urging all to join the fight against addiction and strive for a healthier, addiction-free society.
The collective effort of the Territorial Army, healthcare providers, and community leaders can bring about a significant change and create a brighter future for the youth of Nagaland, a release received here stated.
