The Combined Technical Association of Nagaland (CTAN) and Civil Engineers Association of Nagaland (CEAN) today staged a sit-in protest here against the NPWD alleged “failure of terminating illegal appointees.”
Staging a protest at the Nagaland Public Works Department (NPWD) Directorate office premises in Kohima, the Associations cautioned that unless open advertisement of all posts along with current vacancies are made and illegal appointments cancelled, they will continue to stop any departmental exams in whatever way possible.
The two Associations observed the protest to express resentment over Department’s inaction regarding the demand for “terminating illegal appointments being made between 06/06/2016 to 10/08/2018.”
Despite submitting several representations, the department turned deaf ear to their requests, they said, adding that the peaceful sit-in protest might be intensified if their concerns are not rectified by the concerned authorities.
‘Terminate illegal appointees and give us equal opportunities for employment as per Article 16,’ stated one banner put up at the protest site.
‘Backdoor appointment is not a blessing from God,” read another placard.
Meanwhile, a meeting has been convened in the office Chamber of Commissioner and Secretary Works & Housing Nagaland on December 17 at 11:00 AM.
A meeting notice signed by Engineer-in-Chief NPWD informed that the meeting with the representatives of CTAN and CEAN is as per the information received from Commissioner & Secretary (Works & Housing).
