Bandh to continue in Aboi until govt grants district status: ADDC

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 24 (MExN): The Aboi District Demand Committee (ADDC) conducted the first phase of its bandh within the jurisdiction of the KU units of Aboi Hq, Chen Hq and Longchang Hq by picketing the government offices and restricting government vehicular movement.

A press release from the ADDC informed that a total bandh will be imposed on January 25 as well, and the same would continue until the demand for a full fledged district is granted.

It meanwhile hoped that the Government of Nagaland would listen to the call made by the common public “without making any excuses on any tribal aspects.” It reminded that the demand for Aboi district was initiated in 2008 with No Objection Certificate received from the apex body Konyak Union and later included in the cabinet memo in 2011.

Further, it said that the ADDC and Konyak Union had an undertaking on October 15, 2021, in which the house resolved to seek for creation of new district in Konyak soil with the objective to bring development and progress to the vast population of the Konyaks.

“After much hue and cry, it is the government who failed to declare Aboi HQ with the rest as a district on December 18, 2021 despite fulfilling criteria as required by the state government,” the ADDC said.

It affirmed that the committee would not remain quite until the demand is fulfilled by the Government of Nagaland “as this demand is a public demand without any differences and division within the tribe.”
