BJP for greater participation of Naga women in politics

Dimapur, September 6 (MExN):  Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha President Smriti Irani today came down heavy on the Congress led UPA government at the centre, calling the party ‘contempt of democracy.’ Irani, who was on her maiden visit to Nagaland, said the Congress is an example of bad governance. It has given to the country, among other things “1 crore unemployed youths, law and order problems and food crisis,”

Irani held a meeting with Nagaland state BJP office bearers at Hotel Saramati in Dimapur. She said the BJP is keen to involve more women into politics starting from the grass root level. In Nagaland particularly, Irani said Naga women must become political activists. She observed that Naga women play very active roles in social leadership which must be translated into political leadership. Irani said BJP supports the 33% women reservation and it is the only national party that upholds it within the party’s organisational setup.

On the other hand, she criticised the Congress for adopting 33% reservation as a mere political slogan. She added that the BJP will hold camps to involve more women at the grass root level. Irani is on a ten days north east tour. She was in Manipur on Sunday and will be leaving for Itanagar this evening.
