Book exploring HRM practices of Nagaland colleges released

A book entitled. “A Comparative Study on Human Resource Management (HRM) Practices in Government and Private Colleges of Nagaland” authored by Dr Gopal Chetri, the vice principal of Oriental College Kohima (OCK) was released today.

Nagaland University (NU) Head of Department of Commerce, Prof PK Deka released the book.

The book is a part of the author’s PhD thesis prepared under the supervision of Dr Ratan Kaurinta, Associate Professor Commerce Department, NU.

Highlighting about the book, Dr Chetri said the study is an attempt to find out the differences in HRM practices between government and private colleges of Nagaland.

In the process, HRM practices are being introduced with renewed vigour and highlighted its significance from the viewpoint of the employees and organisational perspective, he said.

The study involves in-depth investigation into the recruitment, selection, training and placement procedure, working conditions, career advancement process, job satisfaction, payments and benefits in the colleges of Nagaland, he added.

Divided into six chapters, the key objectives of study is to highlight the present scenario of higher education and to examine the role of institutions in the promotion and development of human resource in the colleges,  Dr Chetri informed. 

Effective HRM practices motivates employees towards work which improves employees as well as organisational performance, he maintained, while listing out its benefits like flexible job definitions, cross training and work teams, incentive-based pay, which would definitely improve the employee performance.

Releasing the book, Prof Deka congratulated both the author Dr Chetri and his mentor Dr Kaurinta and expressed hope that it will inspire comparative analysis on further research works on HRM practices.

Dr Kaurinta said of all resources, management of human resources is the most difficult task and noted that HRM practices in government colleges need much more deeper investigation and it will be a very important impetus.

The literary presentation of the book is very well done, he said while congratulating Dr Chetri. He further hoped that it would help the policy makers to make the right decision.

The programme was chaired by the OCK Associate Professor of Economics, Nzanbeni Kikon while the college Principal Dr Ketshukietuo Dzüvichü delivered welcome address.
