Dimapur, May 15 (MExN): A book titled ‘Women in Socio-Economic and Cultural Aspects of Nagaland’ edited by Eneingulo-u Lasuh was released online by Rozelle Mero, Founder and Managing Director, The People Channel, Nagaland.
A press note on the book release said that Mero encouraged putting the cultures and traditions of different tribes into writings and said, “Documenting is extremely important as oral tradition can be skewed but written records cannot be.”
She said “when women are empowered through education and businesses, and are allowed to step out of their comfort zones or control zones, they blossom. Often women do things much better because men just see the big picture but women get into find details and a painting is not complete until the detailing is done by women.”
Mero assured that this book will be a benchmark to discuss things further academically as well and expressed hope it will not only used in universities for academics but also in the church platform.
Earlier, Eneingulo-u Lasuh, Editor of the book in her introductory speech said the book discusses various features such as social status, economic development and cultural aspects. “For a long time in the history of human progress, women’s contributions have not been adequately acknowledged. However, that should not imply the lesser role of women in the development of human progress. The grave disparity between the genders in the socio-economic as well as several aspects that link to traditional and patriarchal attitude is discussed,” she said.
Lasuh said that women are regarded and treated well in some aspects but, women are also undermined and equal status has not been given, like denial of leadership, lesser wages, etc. Despite the advent of Christianity and Western Education, our society is still struggling to generate an equal platform. “However, it has sufficient evidence that society can attain optimum level of development in all aspects if equal opportunity is given to both men and women” she added.
Eneingulo-u Lasuh is an educator and currently the Vice Principal at Eastern Christian College, Padumpukhuri, Dimapur.
The online book release programme was chaired by Shuiching Konyak, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Dimapur Government College, Dimapur, while dedicatory prayer was pronounced by Rev. Bonny Resü, Lead Pastor, Chakhesang Baptist Church Dimapur.
