Breakthrough in June 3 murder case

DIMAPUR, JULY 2 (MExN): Dimapur police made a breakthrough in connection with the murder of an unidentified non-local woman on June 3 and the attempted murder of one S. Athili Mao on June 2 last. Investigations conducted by the police linked the involvement of the same group of people in both the crimes. It was reported in the local dailies about the discovery of a bullet-riddled body of a woman from the Chathe River, 4th Mile in the early hours of June 3 and the shooting of one Athili Mao the night before at Elora Lane by unidentified persons. The latter had sustained severe bullet wounds as a result.
A press release from the additional Superintendent of Police, Dimapur stated that the arrest of a taxi driver from Kohima on June 4 last led to the capture of two persons involved in both incidents. The taxi driver was identified as one Sultan Hussain Tapadar (21 years). The other two were indentified as one Mughato Kiba and a Roland Yanthan. According to the release Tapandar was arrested with the help of the Kohima police assisted by the All Nagaland Taxi Association. His interrogation led to a startling discovery prompting investigators to figure out the involvement of the same people. “… It was revealed that on the night of 2 nd June 2011 while he (Tapadar) was at the railway station waiting for passengers, two of his friends along with the deceased victim approached him and requested him to park his vehicle below the flyover bridge so that they could have fun in his vehicle. T
he deceased is reportedly a sex worker whose identity could not be established till date… at around 11:00 PM, four miscreants approached them with weapons and assaulted them. They were then blindfolded and taken to the Chathe River where the victim was shot dead by the miscreants.” Tapadar was then forced to dump the corpse into the river. He and his two friends were warned of dire consequences, if they disclosed the crime to anybody and were only let off in the morning, the release stated.
Meanwhile, investigation into the attempted murder of Athili Mao revealed the involvement of five persons. Descriptions made by witnesses of the shooters matched with that of Tapadars’s revelations. Police, thus could establish the identities of the persons involved. The arrest of Yanthan in connection with an extortion bid on June 13 further revealed that he and his friends were responsible for both crimes, confirming the suspicion of the police. Based on his revelation Kiba was also arrested, who is said to be the main accused. It has been confirmed that Kiba was the shooter on both occasions, the release said.
Four other persons are still absconding, whose identities have been established. “Investigation into their involvement in other similar crimes is also being done and police are confident of unearthing their role in some other such cases.”
