Senapati, November 15 (MExN): One day seminar with church leaders of District Headquarters, Senapati was held at Mao Baptist Centre Church, Senapati under the theme, ‘Significance of the ministry of the Bible Society of India.’
Speaking on the occasion, President, Bible society of India (BSI), Dimapur Auxiliary Rev Dr N Paphino, stated that the Dimapur Auxiliary covers 4 north eastern states including Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal and Assam. He mentioned that the objective of BSI is to work for the Bible and to let everyone get a Bible in their own languages and ‘it is the duty of the BSI to provide the Holy Bible in their own languages. Management of the society reportedly comes through free will and generous donations.’
Secretary BSI, Dimapur Auxiliary Rev Dr Yiepetso Wezah informed that at present, BSI with its head quarters in Bengaluru has 16 Auxiliaries and one Associate Auxiliary at Andaman and Nicobar Island.
He informed that Dimapur Auxiliary has recognized more than 100 languages out of which, BSI has brought out 40 full Bibles and additional New Testament of 14. There are 14 Old Testament translations in progress and 6 New Testament translations in progress. More than 10 tribes in Arunachal Pradesh are yet to start translation of the Bible into their languages. Currently, eight language groups are reportedly doing translations with other Bible societies such as Word for the World, Bible International and Indian Evangelical Mission. BSI reportedly provides 50% discount in distributing local Bibles which made possible with the contributions from local churches and individuals encouraging every member of the church to participate in the mission work of the BSI, he added.
The following were appointed as executives for Senapati branch with Rev Dr N Ch Stevenson Ngata as President, L Kapani Kayina as Vice President, Amos Chalamva as Secretary and YK Hingba as treasurer.
