
Dimapur, November 15 (MExN): The Naga Mothers Association (NMA) has appealed for peace and an end to armed violence and killings.
The NMA, President, Abeiu Meru and Secretary, Lochumbeni Humtsoe in a press note condemned the unfortunate killing of the mother and young son along with the armed personal which included a young Naga soldier of the Assam Rifles. It stated that this is a time for peace and we urge all armed groups to respect human rights and the right of women to peace and security.
“As mothers and women, we continue to live and protest under the shadow of militarisation and draconian Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) which is used with impurity. Violence and killings, however is not the solution,” it said.
The Association has also urged the Government of India to “repeal the AFSPA and ensure peace and justice in our entire region where this inhuman ACT has been imposed for decades. Let there be no more bloodshed.”
The Nagaland State Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton has strongly condemned the killing of rifle man Khatnei Konyak and others including a CO and his family in Churachandpur, Manipur, which has shocked every peace loving citizens.
In a press release, Patton said that such drastic attacks and killings have no place in the society. He also said that rifle man Khatnei who died in the line of duty, will be remembered for his sacrifice he has made.
The Dy CM mourned the demises of all the brave soldiers and conveyed deepest condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families and prayed for the departed souls to rest in peace.
