Dimapur, October 10 (MExN): Along with the other districts of Nagaland Measles Catch-Up campaign in Mokokchung started today i.e. October 10 with a dedication prayer by pastor Bendang, Artang Baptist Church.
The campaign aims to vaccinate all the children in the age group of 9 months – 10 years. Vaccination will be carried out in the schools and in the community covering both the rural and urban areas in order to ensure 100% measles vaccination during the campaign. During the first week School children will be vaccinated covering 235 schools both private and government in the district and from October 17 to 31 non-school going and left out children will be vaccinated in fixed outreach sessions in villages and urban areas. During the campaign ASHAs, AWWs, Teachers and volunteers would assist the health workers and Monitoring and supervisions will be done by Medical Officers and Programme Officers from the district.
Further Dr.Limatula District Immunization Officer, Mokokchung informs all the parents to co-operate during the campaign so that no children are missed out to get the vaccine.
In Dimapur the campaign was flagged off by Rev. Fr. Chacho, Parish Priest with a prayer at Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Dimapur. Dr. Sukhato A. Sema, Chief Medical Officer, Dimapur in his address said that all children between 9 months to 10 years of age are to be October 10 to 31. In the first week, all schools will be covered and in the second and third weeks, Non-school going children will be covered through Out-reach programme.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health & Family Welfare will be conducting Measles Catch-up Campaign in Nagaland from October 10 to 31, covering all children in the group of 9 months to 10 years irrespective of their previous measles immunization status. The three-week campaign will cover schools in the first week and outreach sessions in the next two weeks.
In this connection, the department of Health & Family Welfare has appealed all partner departments of School Education, Social Welfare, Women & Child Development, Municipals, District Administration, Churches, the Media and NGOs to extend their active support in the campaign so as to achieve 100% coverage of the targeted beneficiaries.
Launching ceremony of the National Measles Catch-up campaign was held on October 10 at LM School with Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, Rovilatuo Mor as the chief guest. Speaking at the function, the DC said this campaign is a National programme of the country, where it is not left alone to the Medical Department only but a campaign where every one’s co-operation is required and called for active support from all sections of the communities for the successful implementation of the campaign. The function was chaired by Chief Medical Officer, Wokha, Dr. NM Kithan.

Campaign to cover 87 schools in Longleng
Longleng, October 10 (MExN): Longleng district measles catch-up campaign 2011 was started on October 10. The inaugural function was chaired by Dr. Imtiwabang Aeir DIO Longleng and was declared open by K. Libanthung DC and chairman of District Health Society Longleng with a blessing by Bauau Pastor (PBCA). The measles catch- up Campaign for the district started from Phom Lempong School and it will go on covering 87 (eighty seven) schools in the district.
The DC advised the school children to avail this facility which the Government is giving free of cost. While talking on the importance of health, he said, “A healthy generation will be a productive generation for the society.” He also appealed to the medical teams especially the nurses and vaccinators to be extra careful and sincere during the campaign and to maintain all standards of safety while vaccinating the children. Mr & Mrs Pangnyu Phom Parliamentary secretary donated Rs 20,000 and Mr & Mrs Arjun Rapsang Shillong sponsored distribution of sweets to all the vaccinated children of the district in order to make this campaign a grand success.
