Can Youth first life skill manual on child rights, mental health, substance abuse and leadership for youth and adolescents was launched on March 12.

Dimapur, March 12 (MExN): Can Youth launched its first life skill manual on child rights, mental health, substance abuse and leadership for youth and adolescents on March 12.
The Life Skills Manual was launched by Dr Chiekroshuyi Tetseo, Additional Director and State Nodal Officer National Tobacco Control Program, Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Department, Dr C Keso, Deputy Director and State Program Officer national Mental Health Program, Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Department, Wetshete Thopi, Assistant Professor, Patkai Christian College and Tsenthungo Nyamo, Dimapur Urban Chairman Council Federation (DUCCF) President.
The programme was participated by networking partners from various organizations, health and family welfare department, youth leaders and institutions, stated a press release issued by Can Youth.
Tsenthungo Nyamo (DUCCF) President, said that child rights is an important matter as with the advancement of civilization more problem and issues have pop-up and as leader. He encouraged the young people to be responsible citizen and need to be aware of what child rights so as to ensure the protection and development of children in a very manner.
Dr C Keso said that this life skill manual is what we need in this hour to bring about positive health in the minds of the youth. He mentioned that at any point of time 6-7% of our Indian people suffers from mental illness, around 9-10% of Indian suffers from common mental disorder. He spoke on the importance of awareness and life skills through which we can reach out to the community and society in large.
Dr Tetseo talked on the importance and significance of life skill session which has been quiet for long, which people do not realized the importance of it, and this is the reason why young people lack in basic skills, creativity and critical thinking, communicate effectively, empathize with others to cope up with challenges. He mentioned that churches and schools should emphasis on Life skill to bring about holistic development among the young people. He talked about, how the younger generation are more vulnerable to substance addiction/Abuse and we must target the young adults to stop leading them in this direction.
Wetshete Thopi, Assistant Professor, Patkai Christian College emphasised on generation gap and how each generation has its own issues cum solutions. He also stated that, the current situation is where the older generation is trying to impart old solution to the new problems as a result the younger generation is not getting enough platform and space to bring about creative solution. He said that, freedom should be given to young people to operate and work on ground level for the better society. He encourage the youth to enhance the skills to bring development in oneself and towards the community with quality and productivity.
A short animated video on tobacco was presented which was produced by Can Youth with the purpose of giving awareness to adolescent and youth through which it can reach out to the community and society.
Jenpu Rongmei, Chief Functionary, Can Youth in his welcome note talked about lack of space and opportunities among the young people which are facing problems today. He also stressed on how young people can be a leader of tomorrow.
The programme was chaired by Suikolie Hinglak, facilitator, Development 4 Adolescent project. Sentiwati, Project Coordinator, Development 4 Adolescent proposed the vote of thanks.
