DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 3 (MExN): Nagaland minister for Planning & Co-ordination, TR Zeliang, has acknowledged the role of Catholic institutions in the spheres of human resource development and education, throughout the world.
“More than 10% of the human resource development in the country is contributed by the Catholic institutions. In the North East region, the contribution may be around 30-40 %,” the minister said at the unveiling ceremony of the statue of St. Don Bosco at Naga Shopping Arcade-Walford traffic junction, in the commercial hub Dimapur on Saturday.
Zeliang said even in the field of economy and uplift of the poor and needy, the Catholic institutions were rendering yeoman service.
Paying tribute to the “Father and Teacher of the youth,” he said the contribution of Don Bosco, especially in the field of education, was “tremendous” and a blessing to mankind. The minister also recounted his early education in Catholic institutions and said those days were the most formative and educative period of his life.
Zeliang said that though students may not be happy with the norms and systems of educational institutions, but once they come out from the institutions and face the adult world, then they come to realize the values of the systems and how it had moulded them in the long run.
Urging the students to make full use of the facilities provided by the institutions, the minister said that unlike the past, nowadays schools and educational institutions have all the facilities and courses.
“Let us try to be closer to the brothers, sisters, teachers and fathers in order to learn more,” he exhorted the students.
The minister further called upon the citizens of Dimapur in general to “preserve and protect” the monument, which will not only beautify the city but also bring sweet memories to all those who have studied in Don Bosco schools and related institutions.
