Dimapur, January 30 (MExN): The Ceasefire Monitoring Group (CFMG) is told to clarify which Naga group should occupy the Athibung designated camp and clear all confusion surrounding. The Zeliangrong Baudi of Nagaland issued a statement today seeking a response on the issue considering that the groups continue to ignore the fears and demands of the people.
“The situation has created great public disillusionment and fear which is uncalled for at a time when the Forum for Naga Reconciliation is trying its best to address issues through dialogue and non-violence. Zeliangrong Baudi in line with the FNR firmly believes such factional violence will widen not only the relationship between Naga political groups but alienate the common man further away from the Naga cause,” the Zeliangrong Baudi stated.
“Zeliangrong Baudi calls upon the Ceasefire Monitoring Group (CFMG) to address the situation and get the Naga reconciliation process back on the right track.” The Zeliangrong organization said that the hostilities between the NSCN (Khaplang) and GPRN/ NSCN (Khole-Kitovi) over Athibung designated camp and their presence have left the people living under constant fear and insecurity since the outbreak of the clash.
The ‘baudi’ states – “Let us all foresee our land becoming a prosperous Nation leaving aside bloodshed, poverty and civil war. Let not our ancestors’ sacrifices go in vain, for they suffered untold pains and miseries and left us a legacy which is rightfully ours. The present civil-war-like situation is not what our ancestors sacrificed their lives for. Zeliangrong Baudi sincerely hopes that those involved in this recent spate of violence will reflect on their actions and its detrimental consequences. There is no reason to turn to violence as a means of resolving differences.”
The Zeliangrong Baudi has asked the armed groups to exercise political maturity and wisdom to rise above factionalism, tribalism and narrow politics for the common good of the Nagas. The eruption of “civil-war-like situation” may lead to further destruction and fragmentation of the Naga family, the organization said. “Whether it is the government, FNR, the CFMG or the signatories of the 'Covenant of Reconciliation', remaining silent under such circumstances would only mean more destruction and confusion as the Athibung war may start again anytime.”
The organization calls upon the signatories of the 'Covenant of Reconciliation' to take immediate steps to uphold and pursue the commitments made during the Naga reconciliation meetings. “We pray that all Naga political groups solve all outstanding issues and differences in the spirit of reconciliation through non-violence, mutual respect, understanding and love; so that the Naga cause may move towards its logical end,” the ‘baudi’ stated.
“Let us honestly commit ourselves to the Naga cause for a better tomorrow and as Christians and as brothers let us forgive and forget; bloodshed and killing is not the answer for we yearn for peace, not war.”
