DIMAPUR, MAY 11 (MExN): The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) organized an interface with an expert on the topic 'Challenges of Naga youth and possibilities of higher studies abroad' on May 10 at Peace Center, Chümoukedima.
The resource person, Dr Fr Abraham Lotha, Parish priest in Metachan Diocese USA, a prolific writer who did his studies from Columbia University, USA gave his view based on two perspectives: as a Naga and also as a Naga living in the States.
He shared that one challenge which the Naga youths are facing is the lack of opportunities. He expressed that the Naga youth do not lack intelligence but due to the lack of opportunities, limited choice and options they are not able to develop and actualize their potentials and are also not able to dream.
He also stated that many Naga youth are so used to their comfort zone and are satisfied with mediocrity. So, he encouraged the students not to limit their thinking and be caught up in a world within oneself, within Nagaland and North East but to explore, dare to dream big, to be open to learn and love learning.
Students should find a gap in the existing knowledge and contribute to knowledge building. He stated that in the United States, when a student applies for college, they don’t look upon college as an end to the means but as an opportunity to do something big. He also emphasized on three aspects required for learners: Creativity, Problem Solving and Critical thinking.
Thereafter, a short interactive session was held. The interactive session was well-received and the participants appreciated the opportunity to engage in a meaningful discussion. The programme was moderated by Hika Awomi MSW 4th Semester and vote of thanks was conveyed by Elizabeth Pojar Assistant Professor, NEISSR.
The session was attended by the students, management, teaching and non-teaching staffs of NEISSR.
