Members of the Chang Khulei Setshang and Ao Senden during the special joint meeting held at the office of Chang Khulei Setshang in Tuensang.
Dimapur, June 15 (MExN): The Chang Khulei Setshang and the Ao Senden have jointly condemned the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl in Dimapur and cautioned against attempts to incite tribal or communal tensions in the aftermath of the incident.
In a declaration issued after a special joint meeting held at the office of the Chang Khulei Setshang in Tuensang, the two apex tribal bodies “vehemently condemned the vile sexual crime against a minor girl at Dimapur” allegedly committed by O Watimeren Jamir and Akangkokba and Tsuktimongba.
The two organisations extended solidarity to the survivor and expressed hope that “speedy justice will be delivered to her by awarding befitting exemplary punishment to the alleged culprits.”
The meeting also declared that any group or individual attempting to exploit the incident to promote tribalism or communalism through “defamatory, hateful and maliciously constructed statements” would be viewed seriously and dealt with accordingly by the two apex Hohos.
According to the declaration, such actions could create unnecessary tensions, hurt people's sentiments and threaten the long-standing harmonious relationship between the Chang and Ao communities.
The meeting further resolved that, irrespective of future challenges, the two communities would remain steadfast in nurturing, cherishing and respecting their longstanding friendship and bond.
