DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 18 (MexN): Former Maharashtra Governor and former state chief minister, Dr. SC Jamir, has said that Nagas must learn to live together, to love and regard one another as human beings.
“The destiny of Nagas is one. We survive together and we perish together. If we learn to love and regard each other as human beings, then Nagaland will be a paradise on earth,” the veteran politician said in his Christmas message as chief guest at the ‘Christmas with the Stars-II’ concert held at Clock Tower, Sunday night.
Jamir said that Nagaland state had witnessed trouble and internal strife for too long and asked whether it was not time that Nagas have a society where the people can move, act and speak freely. He said that such a society can come about if all Nagas imbibe the true Christmas spirit of love, compassion and tolerance.
Reminding the gathering that Jesus Christ came to the world to reconcile humanity with divinity and humanity with humanity, Jamir lamented that Nagas have gone wayward by fighting and killing each other, and said that this was not the will of God.
He also said though the meaning of Christmas may differ according to one’s own interpretation, but there is a common or golden thread –that all Christians give thanks to the Almighty God for sending his only begotten son to redeem mankind.   “Whatever we sing, perform or act has to be based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. We cannot be good Christians by simply going to the church or attending events like this (concert). Christianity has to be an integral part of our life, right from our mother’s womb to the tomb,” Jamir said.
Terming Naga youths as the “future of tomorrow”, he said “each one of you (youth) are like bricks which can build the edifice of Naga society. Learn to be honest, righteous and disciplined. WE want active, progressive and dynamic youths to build an active, progressive and dynamic Nagaland,” he said.   “We the older generation would like to hand over you a future which is stable, peaceful and prosperous,” the septuagenarian added,
Earlier, the chief guest also released an album titled “Christmas with stars”.  Note Grid School of Music performed the curtain raiser.
