Churches in Tuensang district have introduced precautionary measures to prevent the corona virus (COVID-19) by requesting members suffering from flu, cough and fever to self isolate and banning handshakes, among others.
The churches have requested members “to stay away from crowds or even the Church, particularly if you are down with cold and cough.” Instead, members have been advised to go to church in the early hours, before the church service.
The advisory also included hygiene tips like washing hands with soap and water, coughing and sneezing into hankies or tissue papers.
Those down with cold and fever can avail facemasks from the church premises, it said.
According to Rev Chingmak Chang of ECS, churches in Hakchang, Maksha, Sangsangyu and Keshai distributed a bar of soap each for every family along with a copy of the advisory.
