Dimapur, December 6 (MExN): CIHSR and Wokha district observed International Day of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) on December 3 under the theme “Promoting the participation of persons with disabilities and their leadership”.
The day was observed in Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR), organized by the Developmental Pediatrics Department and Speech Therapy and PMR Department with a small programme held where IA Wati Jamir, Advocate/Notary public shared on the various legal aspects of Disability. Bendangnuksang shared his experiences with disability.
Special presentation was given by the children of Precious Gems School and a short drama highlighting the theme was presented by the Allied Health students. Dr Sedevi Angami, Director, CIHSR gave a brief talk on the theme highlighting that the area of disability has been the most ignored and often uncomfortable topic, but encouraged one and all to start having conversations on how to meet their needs. He also shared the future plans of CIHSR to develop an Integrated Disability Center to ensure that the people of Nagaland will be able to have better access to disability related health-care needs.
To commemorate the day, the Wokha District Administration, Wokha District Legal Services Authority, department of Social Welfare and District Level Centre for Women-Mahila Shakti Kendra organized a micro empowerment camp for Persons with Disabilities at Town hall, Wokha on December 3.
DC Wokha, Orenthung Lotha in his inaugural address highlighted the facilities, services and rights available for PwDs where he urged them to avail the opportunities of the schemes and programme introduced by the government. Judicial Magistrate First Class and Secretary, Wokha District Legal Services Authority (WDLSA) while giving the keynote address said the WDLSA in collaboration with District Administration, Department of Social welfare and District Level Centre for Women-Mahila Shakti Kendra, its main objective in observing the day was to increase and create awareness and understanding for PwDs in every aspect of their life and to provide certain benefits available for them.
Sr Supervisor, ICDS Erenbeni Kikon apprised the gathering about the welfare schemes for the disabled persons, where State Coordinator UDID, Social welfare Akhihoto highlighted about Unique Disability Identity Card (UDID).
During the programme, disability certificates were also issued, and registration of UDID was also done on the day and Legal Aid/assistance was also done.
