In order to facilitate urban transportation, city buses services have been proposed for Tuensang, Wokha and Zunheboto. In addition, there is also a proposal for an air-conditioned city bus service in Dimapur.
This was stated in the Annual Administrative Report 2019-20 of the State Transport Department tabled in the recent state assembly session here.
At present, Nagaland State Transport (NST) operates its services on 209 routes and 514 scheduled services including the city/pink bus services in Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung and Mon.
However, of the 209 routes, the department could operate only on 121 routes with a route length of 10,894 kms with 137 scheduled services covering 20,462 kms daily, including inter-state service connecting Imphal (Manipur) from Dimapur and Kohima.
The report stated that the department has established a network of service connecting all the 11 district headquarters and “providing access to the most interior corners of the state where road connectivity exists.”
“However, due to operation of the services with aged buses on most of the scheduled services, reliability of the services has declined in view of frequent breakdown causing suspension of the daily scheduled services for want of healthy buses coupled with bad road condition,” the report informed.
