In regard to the recently held NPSC Prelims 2011, I would like to bring up some flaws in some of the answers published by the Department.

And. (d) g,k [ Here the actual answer should be k only which is not available in the option. The point g includes the area which takes Physicists as well and therefore the answer g,k is wrong ]
2. Six girls are selling in a circle facing to the centre. They are PQRSTV. T is not between Q & S but some other are P is next to the left to the left of V. R is 4th to the right of P. Which of the following is true.
Ans. c) R is second left to T [ the actual answer should be (d) P is second right of R ]
3. India stands ________ Place in respect of cow milk production.
Ans. d) sixth [ India stands first in cow milk production so the answer should be (a) first ]
4. which of the following is applied to wasp bite.
Ans. c) Baking soda or lime [ Here both vinegar as well as Baking soda is applied so the option d) Vinegar is also right ]
5. The network which connects systems within a local area network is..
Ans. a) MAN [ Here the answer should be(c) LAN as A Metropolitan area network (MAN) is a large computer network that usually spans a city or a large campus and A local area network (LAN) is a network that connects computers and devices in a limited geographical area such as home, school, computer laboratory, office building, or closely positioned group of buildings.]

7.Slumdog Millionaire won the Oscar award in the year?
Ans. a)2008 [The answer should be d)2009 as slumdog won the Oscar in 23 feb 2009 ]
8.Unity in Diversity is a basic attribute of
Ans. d) Healthy eco-communities [The answer should be c)social communities as the whole concept of Unity in Diversity is the peaceful co-existence of people from different races and identities That takes into account the social attribute and not the economic one]
9.The system of Panchayati Raj involves
Ans. c)The village, district and state [ The answer should actually be a)The village, bloc and district ]
10. Performing CPR technique measure is a ____ in first aid.
Ans. a) Second step [Here the first step of first aid Includes the basic ABC’s of first aid :Airway,Breathing, Circulation where CPR is included. The second step includes ,not moving the injured person and then calling for help, examining and so on. So the answer given is actually in relevance with the first step of first-aid and not the steps of first aid as required by the question ]
In regard with the above doubts and clarifications from my side, I would like the Commission to correct it or give suitable explanations for the answers they have already given. Again it’s a sad scenario again when so much talk of revamping the NPSC exam was published so optimistically in the papers just a few months back. To add to the woes, the cost of appearing such a low mismanaged standard of exam in comparison with the High level central exams, is frankly a pathetic one considering its many inefficiency and faults. Misspelled words which can add up to confusion can be seen in the present preliminary exams as well which though small can nonetheless get confusing. The Commission should look that the questions being asked should have a definite ‘one answer’ which would be greatly welcomed by us all, instead of double answers and no answers which is the usual pattern being followed every year. Hopefully, appropriate measures will be undertaken in the quickest possible way as the Commission holds the key for the future of recruiting the best in the State and therefore should set a standard for itself altogether.
