Along with rest of the country, Nagaland’s youth resources and sports advisor Er Zale Neikha launched the Clean India 2.0 programme at Kezoma village on October 1.
This is in continuation of the celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav for a month long programme to be taken up across Nagaland.
This programme was initiated and organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India.
Neikha echoed the national level programme launched by Anurag Thakur, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports and appealed to all the citizens of Nagaland to usher cleanliness and reduce use of single use plastic materials, which is endangering the environment.
‘Clean India 2.0’ was also launched in Nagaland along with other states of India to create awareness to the citizens to keep their surroundings clean and waste free.
It aims to promote a nation-wide cleanliness drive to clean public places and households while spreading the message of Swacch Mann (Clean Environment for Clean Mind) and also creating awareness on single-use plastics, Neikha said.
Our reliance on these plastics means we are accumulating waste at a staggering rate. We produce around 300 million tons of plastics each year worldwide, half of which is for single-use items, he said.
“Today, as we kick-off the ‘Clean India 2.0,’ we will have the privilege to help the environment with removal of degrading waste which is harmful for the environment in the place we live in,” Advisor Neikha said.
The key activities will include collection and disposal of waste, village beautification, heritage maintenance on hotspot locations such as tourist place, educational institute, bus stand and railway station, national highways and local roads, hospitals for whole month of October.
He was optimistic that this one month cleanliness drive will create a huge difference in the society with suitable environment for the plants and the society.
