Dimapur, January 7 (MExN): The chief minister of Nagaland appeals to all leaders of villages and municipal institutions in Nagaland to ensure an ‘honest, true census’ as the country’s census mechanism readies to launch the Socio-Economic and Caste Census, census year 2011.

“As the accurate and authentic data is of paramount importance for inclusive development and growth in the state, I take this opportunity to once again make a fervent appeal to all of you to extend your full cooperation to the census officials in the spot verification of households and collecting correct information in your respective locality/ward/village,” Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio stated in a message today.  The chief minister of Nagaland appealed to all “Gaon Buras” (GBs), chairmen and members of town council and village councils across the state to extend full cooperation to the census undertaking which is scheduled for January 16-February 29,  2012.

The Government of India has decided to conduct the Socio-Economic and Caste Census covering both urban and rural areas in the country. The Government of Nagaland would be conducting the census in the state from January 16 with the departments of Urban Development and Rural Development as the nodal departments.

The chief minister said the exercise in the aftermath of the population enumeration 2011 conducted in February-March 2011 “in which all of you have immensely contributed in bringing out true and correct data of census 2011” is of vital importance towards proper planning for undertaking all round development of the state and the nation.

Successful enumeration and authentic data from the socio-economic and caste census would further strengthen “in visualizing proper perspective for future developmental plans especially in formulating appropriate welfare programmes and ensuring its benefit by all sections of the people,” Rio stated.

“I trust that with your unflinching support, the SECC 2011 would be a successful one which will go a long way in shaping the betterment of our society in the days ahead through accurate assessment of the available resources vis-à-vis felt developmental needs of the people.”

Through the SECC 2011, the entire population both in the rural and urban areas belonging to all religions, castes and tribes will be covered to ascertain the exact status of the living conditions of the people across the country.

The SECC 2011 enumeration will be based on self-declaration of questionnaires and the entire exercise will be paperless. In this regard, detail instructions have already been given to the officials appointed as enumerators, data entry operators and supervisors who would be visiting every household. They would then enter the responses directly in the electronic Hand Held Device designed especially and developed for the purpose.
