CM-level meeting ‘very soon’: Commissioner of Nagaland

TSU, TNYF hold meeting with DGP Nagaland, senior officials

Dimapur, July 15 (MExN): A Chief Minister level meeting of Nagaland and Assam is “scheduled to be held very soon” to discuss the border issue between the two states, according to the Commissioner of Nagaland, further calling for calmness among the public to avoid confrontation.

According to the Tzürankong Naga Youth Front (TNYF), the assurance was given to the Front and Tzürankong Senso Mungdang (TSM) during a meeting on July 15 with senior Nagaland police officials led by DGP Nagaland T John Longkumer with the objective of finding an “amicable solution to the current tension in the border between Nagaland and Assam.”

Among others, the meeting was attended by the Commissioner of Nagaland Rovilatou Mor, IGP (NPTO) Imlisunep IPS, DIG (Border) Vidalalie Zashumo IPS, DIG (IR) North Sendongmeren IPS, SP Mokokchung, ADC Mangkolemba and Border Magistrate, Merangmen.

A press release from TNYF informed that both the public organisations of Tzurangkong area addressed the grievances vis-à-vis border issues to the senior officers present in the meeting. 

The DGP assured the public organisations of the department's plan to realign sufficient security force in the area at the earliest possible time to maintain status quo and to avoid further encroachment from both sides, it said. 

The Commissioner of Nagaland also “reassured the house that a Chief Minister level meeting of Nagaland and Assam is scheduled to be held very soon” and called for calmness among the public, it added. 

After due deliberation, the organisations demanded the State Government to settle the present border issue at the earliest and ensure that the security set-up be beefed up to stop all future incursions into Naga ancestral land, the release said. The TSM and TNYF also assured the officers of all assistance to the administration in order to maintain tranquility among the populace of the two states, it added.
