'College life not just about academic brilliance'

North East NSS Festival 2019 underway

The North East National Service Scheme (NSS) Festival 2019 got underway today at Kohima Science College, Jotsoma.
Gracing the inaugural function, Er Zale Neikha, advisor youth resources & sports expressed thanks to Nagaland State NSS Cell and host Kohima Science College for taking upon this initiative to host the North East NSS Festival 2019, which, he said has created a platform for the youths of the entire Northeast to come under one umbrella of NSS- promoting oneness, experiencing and understand each other's culture and share knowledge.
He said that NSS is a recognized movement spread across the globe, with the aim to develop students' personality through community service.
He said that college life is not just about being brilliant in academics.
“As a student, it is equally important to be talented in other fields for it will help to develop your future career,” he said adding that college education extends beyond classrooms, books and research papers.
Er Neikha said that co-curricular activities offers students the opportunity of thinking outside the box and getting innovative ideas and preparing for the future.
“It gives students a chance to identify and develop their inner talents like creative skills, leadership qualities etc,” he said adding that students are the backbone of the society and the future leaders of tomorrow.
Every day is a chance to become a better person. Every day is an opportunity to grow beyond your present barriers and circumstances, he said adding that everyone has the resources, the skills, personality and experience that deserve to be discovered and nurtured.
He said that every individual has a role to play in society and it is the responsibility of every individual to work towards strengthening the base of the society.
Every society is like a bundle of flowers where the beauty of each flower compliments the bouquet of flowers to look brilliant, he added.
He urged upon the students to embark on the ideals, educate, inspire, motivate and contribute and be responsible students and citizens of the society.
Achieve for yourself a status that gives you the sweetest satisfaction and give back to the society what is proper and expected of you, he said adding “Be a person of integrity.”
He extended best wishes to the students to have a blessed time together and learn from each other and take back memories of love, peace and brotherhood.
Earlier, Dipak Kumar, Regional Director, Directorate NSS Cell, NER Guwahati delivered keynote address while welcome address was delivered by Dr. Lily Sema, principal , Kohima Science College, Jotsoma.
The festival will go on till December 12.
