Even as the students of various colleges affiliated to ANCSU gathered at various intersections of Dimapur town in protest against alleged mismanagement of scholarship fund on Wednesday, no untoward incident was reported.
The students were responding to the indefinite bandh call by nineteen colleges in Dimapur in solidarity with the ANCSU, which had called for an indefinite hunger strike since June 4 in Kohima.
By 9 am, college students were gathered at Deluxe point while some of them headed to Nagarjan police point. The supermarket area, which was bustling with activity owing to the Wednesday market, was deserted by 12 noon after a large number of students assembled and directed the shopkeepers and vegetable sellers to down shutters.
There were reports of some students being gathered at Purana Bazaar.
During the morning hours, business establishments remained open in Deluxe point area, however, as the number of students grew at the area, shops owners downed their shutters steadily. Police personnel, some in riot gear, were also seen stationed at the area where the students had assembled. However, traffic, business and all other activities were almost normal in the rest of the town.
A meeting between the DNSU and college representatives was held at Naga Council office but there was no concrete outcome as the students remained adamant on continuing their protest till 4 pm.
However, the students are learnt to have called off the bandh following reports that the state government has agreed to meet the demands of the ANCSU.
