Combine annual training camp for NCC cadets

Dimapur, December 20 (MexN):A combine annual training camp for cadets of 1 Nagaland Girls battalion NCC, Kohima, 24 Nagaland (Independent) Coy NCC, Kohima and 25NL (Independent) Coy NCC, Mokokchung is being conducted by 1 NL Girls Battalion NCC Kohima, at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School Dimapur from December 12 to 21. The camp aims to impart collective training to cadets, provide them an opportunity to experience community living, and to co-operate and work together. It also aimed at inculcating leadership qualities, spirit of adventure and sportsmanship, amongst the Cadets.
In a press release issued by Lt. Col. Joy Choudhury, Commanding Officer, 1 Nagaland Girls Battalion it was stated that the camp was formally opened by the Group Commander, NCC Group HQ, Kohima, Colonel Abhay Singh, on December 13 , 2011. The camp is being attended by a total of 524 NCC cadets, (442 Senior Wing Cadets) and men (82 Senior Division Cadets), from all the districts of Nagaland.
Through this camp, cadets were coached for the “B” and “C” Certificate Examinations, which gain them additional avenues for employment in the Armed Forces and various Central Govt Services, as also for pursuing higher education. Cadets were also selected for further participation in future NCC activities, which are conducted at the national level, like the Thal Sena Camp (Septemper 2012) and Republic Day Camp (January 2013).
The activities during the camp included training on various subjects according to the NCC Curriculum, competitions like firing and drill, cultural activities to help cadets keep rooted to their traditions and sports and games, to develop a love for the outdoors and sportsmanship. Extempore and Quiz competitions were held, to help cadets expand their knowledge frontiers and develop their skills towards expressing themselves.
Daily Study Periods were observed to enable Cadets to study for their forthcoming examinations in February 2012. Lt Col Joy Choudhury, the Commanding Officer of 1 Nagaland Girls Battalion NCC, exposed the Cadets to “Neuro Linguistic Programming” and practiced selected cadets in the techniques of “Mind Mapping” as a powerful tool for “note taking” for their academic studies, besides using it for brainstorming, creative thinking, problem solving and organizing of ideas.
Several lectures were also delivered by prominent personalities which include Captain Deepti Khatri of the Army, an ex NCC Cadet and a national shooter, who spoke about her experiences as an NCC Cadet and presented a glimpse of the Life in the Armed Forces. Lt Col P V Bhaskar, Officer Commanding, of the Army Supply Depot, an experienced Dimapur, presented the pathway to the Armed Forces.
Br Sunny, Director, D.B Tech and AIDA, delivered a talk on the empowerment of rural youth, through a joint programme between the Govt of India, Ministry of Rural Development, and Bosco Academy for Skills and Employment (BASE), Dimapur towards a stable employment and bright future.
Dr. Temsu Lemtor, In charge of the Blood Bank at Civil Hospital, Dimapur, spoke on the “Truth About Blood Donation”, on December 15 and December 17, 2011. A special blood donation drive was subsequently organized on December 19, 2011, wherein 114 Cadets volunteered to donate blood. A total of 74 Units of blood were donated by the Cadets and Staff of 1 Nagaland Girls’ Battalion NCC, Kohima.
With the kind permission of Lt. Gen Dalbir Singh, AVSM, VSM, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Corps and Major Gen George NG, VSM, Chief of Staff (COS), 3 Corps, the cadets were able to witness a brilliant and grand display of modern weaponry and equipment of the Armed Forces, a dog and horse show, accompanied by flight past by helicopters of the Army Aviation, at Rangapahar, on  December 16, 2011. The event was coordinated by Colonel V Kannan, of HQ 3 Corps. it ended with a total of 101 aspiring and  promising young women (66 Senior Wing Cadets) and men (35 Senior Division Cadets), expressing a desire to serve with the Armed Forces.
