Dimapur, October 2 (MExN): The Indisen Farmer’s Market, a community initiative to develop and sustain farmer’s market was inaugurated in Dimapur on October 2. According to an update received here, to oversee and take this community project forward, an interdisciplinary committee of village council members and the church elders was created.

The mission of the Indisen Farmer’s Market is to promote the exchange of fresh, quality, local food and agricultural products between the agricultural producers of State and its residents and visitors for the purpose of supporting local growers, entrepreneurs and artisans, providing a quality product to consumers, and supporting sustainable agriculture.

Indisen Farmer’s Market is funded and constructed under the Iconic Project, LADPF for Dimapur II with an allocated amount of Rs 49,60,000. The Indisen Baptist Church also contributed an amount of Rs 30,36,106.

The market was inaugurated by MLA Dimapur 2, Moatoshi Longkumer in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Director of land Resources, Director of Agriculture, ACP, Indisen Village Council members and Indisen Baptist Church Pastor and elders, it stated.

The concept of farmer’s market is not new to Nagas as one can call the rows of vendors selling vegetables along the Nyamo Lotha Road or the daily bazaars that pop up all around Dimapur, a mini farmer’s market. However, there are many inconveniences and drawbacks in using these spaces to set up shop. “The goal of the market is to address insufficient access to fresh and affordable produce, dry goods, meat and other essentials for individuals working and residing in the Western part of the city. A great market must be carefully planned as a public gathering place and managed within a sustainable business structure,” it stated.

Indisen Farmer’s Market will serve as a catalyst for a thriving hub of trade and commerce in the future. It will be directly beneficial for the residents of Notun Bosti, Riverbelt Colony, Duncan Bosti, Supply Colony, Landmark, Taxes, Oriental, Viola, Kashiram, Senjum, Aoyimkium, Kachari Gaon, Industrial Estate, Tribal, Rilan, Lengrijan, Aokong, DC Court Razuphie. It will also ease traffic congestion in Nyamo Lotha road, Church Road and Dhobi Nala as it will more convenient for residents to do their purchases from the Indisen Farmer’s Market.
