Peren, August 31 (MExN): Awareness cum consultation programme on issues of disabilities was held at New Jalukie Village, Peren on August 31. An update received here stated that the programme was organized by National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) - Javed Abidi Fellowship in collaboration with New Jalukie Village Council.
The session was conducted by Ngaugongbe, Fellow (Research & Advocacy) NCPEDP-Javed Abidi Fellowship who is also the Joint Secretary of Nagaland State Disability Forum.
Highlighting about the scenario of disabled people in Nagaland, Ngaugongbe stated that disabilities issues are rising day by day but the government and society in general are lacking in knowledge and actions in addressing the issues.
“There are very less access to quality education, healthcare facilities and other welfare schemes for Disabled People in the state. As such People with disabilities remain under graded in their personal development and quality of life,” Ngaugongbe stated.
During the session, he apprised the People with Disabilities to move out from their home and experience outside environment and socialize with others. Also he told the parents not to restrict their children within their home but allow them to get involve in social activities.
In the session, some parents of persons with disabilities raised concerns about difficulties in attaining Disability Certificate, Aadhaar Card and non-payment of Disability Pension since 2020 to their children.
The session was attended by PwDs and their parents, Anganwadi Workers and Village Chairman and executives.
