A total of 2.6 metric tonne of medical items which Manipur government required in its preventive measures to check the outbreak of COVID-19 was airlifted from Delhi to Imphal on Saturday.

The medical materials were airlifted under the initiative of National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) extending solidarity to the state government in its precautionary and preventive measures to check the outbreak of the disease in the state.

The NHPC arranged to airlift the cargo on the request of the state government and the items airlifted on Saturday included sanitizers, thermal scanners, masks, etc.

An source from the NHPC said that the corporation had already earmarked Rs 4.5 crore to fight the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

The timely supply of medical materials was most crucial and as such NHPC aided the airlifting of medical materials to Imphal.

The land locked region of Manipur has a difficult terrain and sending of medical materials by flight would save crucial time in fighting COVID-19 crisis in the state, the NHPC stated.

NHPC’s 105 mega watt Loktak Power Station in Manipur is also generating uninterrupted power in this situation of crisis, it added.
