NFR completes LHB conversion of all long-distance trains
Meanwhile, NFR said it had completed the conversion of all long-distance passenger trains operating over its network from conventional Integral Coach Factory (ICF) coaches to modern Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches.
With the completion of the conversion, 103 long-distance passenger train services, comprising 55 NFR services and 48 services of other railway zones, are now operating with LHB coaches, making NFR fully LHB-compliant for its long-distance train services.
NFR said the transition to LHB coaches would enhance passenger safety, travel comfort and operational efficiency.
The LHB coaches are equipped with safety features including Fire and Smoke Detection System (FSDS), Fire Detection and Suppression System (FDSS) and aerosol-based fire detection systems.
A total of 1,226 LHB AC coaches have been fitted with FSDS, while 155 power cars and 79 pantry cars are equipped with FDSS. In addition, 3,436 AC coaches have been provided with aerosol-based fire detection systems.
The systems continuously monitor critical areas within coaches to detect potential fire incidents and raise alarms for timely intervention, NFR said. It added that all power cars, pantry cars and AC coaches were being equipped with appropriate fire protection systems in a phased manner.
NFR said rail safety was an ongoing process and regular safety drives, periodic safety audits and inspections were conducted to identify vulnerabilities in asset maintenance, safety procedures and systemic gaps.
