Kohima, August 22 (MExN): The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) has condoled the death of Niketu Iralu, describing him as one of Nagaland’s most respected voices for peace, reconciliation and moral leadership.
In a condolence statement, the NMA said Iralu was a key partner and supporter of its work against alcoholism and drug addiction, particularly during the early 1990s when the problems were rampant in Nagaland.
The association said Iralu helped the Naga Mothers connect with the KRIPA Foundation, Mumbai, leading to the establishment of the NMA-KRIPA De-addiction Centre in Kohima.
Later, Iralu served as the first Visiting Director and Counsellor of the Naga Mothers’ Association and KRIPA Foundation’s Mount Gilead Home at Sechu, Zubza.
The NMA said Iralu worked closely with the association on social transformation and shared its concern for a generation battling alcoholism, drug addiction and HIV/AIDS.
His contribution as a mentor, friend and guide to successive women leaders of the NMA would remain on record, it said.
“For him peace meant restoring lives and healing families, not just ending conflict,” the association said.
The NMA described Iralu as a beloved brother, uncle and mentor, and noted his deep gender sensitivity in a society deeply affected by violence against women.
