TNAI Kohima observes International Nurses Day
KOHIMA, MAY 12 (MExN): This year’s International Nurses Day takes on a special meaning as the value of nurses has never been as visible on a global scale as now. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown how crucial nurses are to functioning of society.
The Trained Nurses' Association of India (TNAI), Kohima organized an observation of the International Nurses Day under the theme: ‘Nurses a voice to lead: Nursing the world to health’ today at Lobby Hall, Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima.
To observe the day, the nurses of Naga Hospital held a short lamp lighting ceremony.
Rita Angami, President TNAI, local branch, Kohima said that this Nurses Day could not be celebrated in a grand manner like the other years, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year’s Nurses Day is also very special because it is the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth and the World Health Organization has designated the year 2020 as the year of nurses and midwives, said Rita.
She urged all the nurses to unite even during this challenging situation and work with sincerity while dealing with people’s life. Being a nurse is a noble profession because it demands tireless contribution, dedication and an extraordinary amount of compassion and selflessness, she added.
The lamp lighting was done by Nothusanu, Nursing Superintendent, NHAK. Invocation prayer was pronounced by Vikepu Tepa, Chaplain, NHAK.
The TNAI, local branch Kohima also visited the Kohima Orphanage and Destitute Home and Cradle Ridge Hospice, Kohima. They distributed rice and other essential items to the home.
