Nagaland’s Housing & Mechanical Minister Tongpang Ozukum has reiterated his appeal to the people to strictly maintain social distancing particularly during the shopping period in the state capital, Kohima.
The Morung Express has been gathering views and observations of the cross section of people on social distancing protocol during COVID-19 lockdown period.
Ozukum, who is also minister in- charge of Task Force Kohima district on COVID-19, told The Morung Express that India is into the third phase of lockdown which will end on May 17.
“Lockdown may possibly extend but even if it does not, people should know that "social distancing" is a must to protect ourselves,” Ozukum stated.
Stating that the virus that causes COVID -19 spreads easily and rapidly, he said “it is for own good that everyone is advised and encouraged to maintain social distancing.”
Social distancing is of course, not the treatment to the virus but it is considered as an important and effective way to slow down spread of the virus and contain it, the minister said.
It is pertinent to mention that the National Directives for COVID-19 Management stated that all persons in charge of public places, work places and transport shall ensure social distancing as per the guidelines issued by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
Social distancing at work places shall be ensured through adequate gaps between shifts, staggering the lunch breaks of staff etc.
Marriages related gatherings shall ensure social distancing, and the maximum number of guests allowed shall not be more than 20, the directive stated.
