COVID: Nagaland logs lowest 7-day caseload of the last 24 weeks

IDSP notes rise in positivity among travellers

Nagaland has managed to keep the weekly sample positivity rate below the 5 percent mark for 7 consecutive weeks, reporting 180 new cases from September 25 to October 1.

The weekly sample positivity rate for the period was 2.1 percent, according to the weekly COVID-19 roundup published by the state Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) on Saturday. 

While case detection among ‘self-tests or random tests’ accounted for majority of the new cases at 136, the IDSP noted a ‘slight increase’ in positivity among travellers with 19 new cases. “The proportion of new weekly positive cases by ‘Travellers’ has increased from 5% to 11% in the last three weeks,” it pointed out.

Among the other categories, 13 were traced contacts, 7 were security personnel and 5 were frontline workers. 

Among the districts, Dimapur continued to report the highest number of cases with 106 out of the 180, followed by Kohima at 38, and Mokokchung (16) while Zunheboto reported zero cases during the same period. Except for Phek which reported 14 cases, the case count was below 10 in the rest of the districts.

Recoveries and fatalities
After dipping the previous week, there was improvement in the number of recoveries, which was more than the detection of new cases. A total of 274 patients recovered— Dimapur- 125, Kohima- 56, Tuensang- 37, Mokokchung- 21, Wokha- 13, Phek- 10, Longleng- 4, Kiphire and Peren- 3, Zunheboto- 2, Mon- 0. 

Over the week, 5 more deaths were reported in the state—4 from Dimapur and 1 from Mokokchung, taking the tally of COVID-19 deaths to 651. 

Vaccination 
The IDSP reported that 10,63,599 doses of vaccines have been administered in the state out of which 46,385 were administered between September 25 and October 1. Out of the total, 56 percent of the eligible beneficiaries have received the first dose and 30 percent have received the second dose. 

Nagaland’s COVID-19 caseload increases by 30

Dimapur, October 2 (MExN): The cumulative caseload of COVID-19 cases in Nagaland rose to 31,295 with 30 new confirmed cases on Saturday. The new cases were detected among 1,512 samples that were tested in the last 24 hours, returning a daily positivity rate of 1.98 percent.

The new cases were reported from four districts— Dimapur (20), Mokokchung (4), Kohima (3), and Phek (3), out of which 13 cases were detected through traced contacts, 10 from self tests and random tests, 4 from armed forces/security personnel, and 3 from frontline workers, according to the daily bulletin issued by the state Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme.

The official COVID death toll which excludes 15 other deaths that were classified as ‘non COVID deaths (with COVID positivity),’ in the bulletin, remained at 651 as the state reported zero fatalities on Saturday.

On the other hand, 23 single-day recoveries were also reported in the last 24 hours as 15 patients from Dimapur, 4 from Phek, 3 from Kohima, and 1 from Mokokchung, recovered from the disease on Saturday. With this, the number of recoveries in the state rose to 29,277.

According to the bulletin, there are currently 352 active cases in the state out of which 272 are asymptomatic. A total of 61 cases are mild symptomatic and 8 are moderate on oxygen. Among the cases with severe symptoms, 5 are receiving oxygen support, 2 are admitted in ICUs without ventilator and 4 are said to be in the ICU on ventilator support. 

As on October 2, Dimapur had the highest number of active cases at 206 while Zunheboto was the only district with zero active cases.
