CPO Committee asks cadre to stop harassing road construction workers

PHEK, NOVEMBER 5 (MExN): The Committee on 2 Lane Road of the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) has asked cadres to stop harassing the companies/contractors engaged in road projects in Phek district. A press release issued by the CPO on November 5 stated that it has come to its notice that cadres claiming to be from different Naga Political Groups have been harassing workers of the contractors with “tax” demands. 


It added that two workers of a construction company were recently abducted for ransom, which has further spread fear. 


“Such unabated activity by national workers or anti social elements will jeopardize the ongoing project in the district and inevitably cause the general public to suffer for many years to come,” it said. 


While stating that the Committee was formed by the CPO to act as a watchdog to ensure timely, proper and quality execution of work, it added that it was also the Committee’s bounden duty to create a congenial working environment for the workers on site. 


As such, it asked the “cadres” to immediately stop harassing the contracted firms with monetary demands and the firms were also advised to inform the Committee whenever unsolicited demands come their way.  


It called upon the villages/towns, public and the administration of Phek district to be vigilant against any potential threat to the ongoing road projects in the district. 


The committee appeals the effected Villages/Towns in particulars and public in general as well as administration to remain vigilant and check any potential threat to ongoing execution of the mega project.
