Dimapur, September 2 (MExN): The 173 Battalion of the CRPF, Airfield Dimapur, in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), will organise various sporting events at two locations in Dimapur under the banner “Spandan – Sports for Peace and Development Across Nations” from September 9 to 12.
A men's badminton tournament and a women's badminton tournament will be held at the CIHSR Hospital Campus, 4th Mile, Chumoukedima, during the period. The tournaments will be open to male and female participants, respectively, above 18 years of age.
A men's volleyball tournament will be organised at the CRPF Transit Camp, Industrial Village Razhuphe, near the DC Court, Dimapur. The event will also be open to male participants above 18 years of age.
The organisers have announced prizes of Rs 10,000 for the first position, Rs 6,000 for the second and Rs 4,000 for the third in each of the events. All participants will be provided T-shirts and refreshments during the events.
The initiative seeks to promote physical fitness, healthy living and community participation while encouraging young people to engage in constructive activities and inculcating values of discipline, teamwork, mutual respect and national unity, the organisers said.
Sports have the ability to bring people together, transcend social barriers and foster camaraderie and harmony, it said.
Under Khelo India and “Spandan – Sports for Peace and Development Across Nations,” the 173 Battalion CRPF aims to strengthen the bond between the Central Armed Police Forces and the local community while providing youth a platform to showcase their sporting talent and participate in healthy activities.
The initiative is envisioned not merely as a series of sporting events but as an effort to use sports to promote peace, unity, social harmony and community development and contribute towards a healthier, more cohesive and progressive society.
The events are being coordinated by the 173 Battalion CRPF, Airfield Dimapur, with the support of SAI and are expected to draw participation from across Nagaland.
