DAPCU observes World AIDS Day
Zunheboto, December 8 (MExN): The DAPCU, Zunheboto observed World AIDS Day at Sumi Baptist Church, Zunheboto (SBCZ) on December 1.
The programme was chaired by Niloli, prayer secretary and invocation prayer was done by Easther, assistant pastor, said a press release from programme assistant, DAPCU.
A special number was presented by the youth of old town church. A brief introduction and presentation was done by Akiho Chophy (M&E Asst DAPCU). Significance of the day was shared by Jubit Zhimo (DIS DAPCU) who said that December 1 was to pay tribute and solitary to those who died from HIV and also fight for the PLHIVs to stop stigma and discrimination.
Dr Kipito, Nodal officer OST Zunheboto in his speech appreciated DAPCU staff and the SBCZ for the cooperation. He said that the day was observed globally since 1988, where 37.9 million people are living with HIV/AIDS globally according to 2018 status.
Educate people about the topic on HIV/AIDS and come forward to support and care for PLHIVs. It is the duty of the community to make difference and bring positive changes in the society.
He shared about its signs and symptoms, adding that nearly 99% in Nagaland are through sexual route of transmission.
He also encouraged the NGOs and church leaders not to depend only on government but work together and bring changes in the society for better future in the days to come. Around 50 participants attended the programme.
