Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Anoop Khinchi, IAS on Wednesday commended the role played by Self Help Groups (SHG) in the rural areas through skill development and strengthening their financial positions.
Addressing the Regional Sale of Articles of Rural Artisans Society (SARAS) Fair at Dimapur Club, Khinchi encouraged the SHG members to concentrate more on skill development and improvising on what they have learnt in order to be in line with market demands.
“You also need to continuously get feedback from the market regarding the demands,” he said and added that organic produces were in high demand.
Additional Secretary & Mission Director, Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSLRM), Athel O Lotha in her keynote address said that the main objective of organizing the Fair was to create market linkages for rural products thereby uplifting the livelihood of the rural people. She said the Fair also envisages bringing the SHGs together under one platform to showcase their products and learn from each others’ experiences.
She informed that 38 stalls have been set up and 1200 members from various SHGs are taking part in the 10-day Fair which would culminate on November 22.
A host of locally produced fruits, vegetables, handicrafts and home decors are being exhibited at the venue. Local artists would also be performing during the 10-day programme.
The Fair is being organized by NSLRM Department of Rural Development.
