Dimapur, March 28 (MExN): The Dimapur District Village Council Chairman Association (DDVCA) has written to the Director of Food and Civil Supplies seeking clarification on the deposit of 3 months cost for Fair Price Shop (FPS) rice.
In its letter, DDVCA president, I Khekuto Wilson and secretary, VithoZao referred to a letter from the Director dated March 24 directing PHH agents to deposit advance money for the month of May and June 2020 on or before April 15.
“We are perplexed as to why it has to do so when the Government of India has declared publicity, free rice/food grains for 3 months. This is in total contradiction to the GOI. Village FPSs are receiving calls from your office to deposit the same immediately whereas for the month of May/June you have given a deposit period on or before April 15,” the letter stated.
The association further pointed out that it is not practical for village FPS to stock FPS Rice for 2 months with no proper godown. Thirdly, the village FPS will find it difficult to deposit an amount for 2 or 3 months at a time, it added.
“When the whole country is under lockdown, we find the office order highly insensible and most unsympathetic when the public need help and assistance we have been burdened,” the DDVCA stated.
It demanded clarification from the department on its order and to clear any confusion.
