As part of the State Government’s firm enforcement of its ‘No Work, No Pay’ policy and uphold administrative discipline and enhance workplace accountability, Yanthungo Patton, Deputy Chief Minister carried out surprise inspections across several government offices in Wokha on June 13.
The inspection commenced at Department of Rural Development, where Patton scrutinised attendance registers and physically verified staff presence. Out of the 31 employees listed, only 12 were present, while two were on approved leave. A concerning 19 staff member was found absent without official sanction.
Taking immediate action, the Deputy Chief Minister ordered salary deductions for the absentees and directed that their names be forwarded to the Deputy Commissioner for further disciplinary proceedings. Patton also ensured that employees marked present were at their respective workstations. Those unaccounted for, despite being marked as present, were also categorised as absent, with similar salary deductions instructed.

The inspection then moved to Power Department, where 28 employees were recorded. Three were on sanctioned leave and one was absent without approval. Once again, Patton initiated same-day wage deductions for unauthorised absences, reinforcing the seriousness of the government’s attendance policy.
At Department of Economics and Statistics, of the 35 staff members, two were found absent and one on approved leave. Addressing officials during the visit, Patton underscored the significance of punctuality, adherence to proper leave protocols, and daily attendance as fundamental aspects of public service ethics.
“All employees are expected to attend office regularly. Leave must be officially applied for and approved in advance,” he stated, adding that further surprise inspections would be conducted in the coming months to ensure continued compliance.
During his visits, the Dy CM also took time to interact with officials, listening to grievances and operational challenges faced by each department. He assured staff that legitimate concerns would be addressed and necessary follow-up actions initiated.
