During the lockdown, when most villages and wards are sealed, the Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) have been continuously working within their respective villages in the state.

Besides carrying out their daily responsibilities and spreading awareness on COVID-19, the ASHA workers in Dimapur are also providing care packages to the aged, widows, pregnant women, new born, and the needy in their villages with their own expenses, informed Dimapur District Media Officer, Kimnei on May 10.

ASHAs are voluntary health workers who do not receive monthly salary. They receive activity based and performance based incentives which are also very meagre, Kimnei told The Morung Express. These self funded care packages show how the ASHA workers are going above and beyond the call of their duty, she added.

The ASHAs continue to provide house-to-house new born care services and keeping track of the pregnant women in their villages. They are also demonstrating hand washing techniques and spreading awareness on COVID-19 in their respective villages.
