District level training for Mentors of Children’s Parliament held in Peren

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 6 (MExN): The Children’s Parliament Initiative-II under the aegis of Development Association of Nagaland (DAN) conducted a one-day training program for the mentors of Children’s Parliament under Peren district on August 4 at St Xavier Parish, Jubilee Hall- Jalukie. 

Rev Fr Dr Francis Cheerangal, Principal, St Xavier College, Jalukie addressed the participants on ‘Teaching and learning skills’. He stated that as a mentor they should know the elements of a teacher on how, why, whom and what context they are teaching.  

Vizo, Clinical Psychologist of Mental Health, District Hospital, Peren town spoke on mental health issues of adolescents. She stated that adolescence is a critical age, and added that as a mentor one should know the characteristics of an adolescent, the challenges faced by an adolescent and how to provide mental health aid.

Jiji Joseph, Senior Program Officer, DAN highlighted the roles and responsibilities of a mentor of Children’s Parliament. Earlier, the programme began with an invocation by Rev Father Martin, Vice Principal, St Xavier Hr Sec School, Jalukie, while Rev Father Sajan Joseph, Director, DAN delivered an exhortation message. Maheni Martha was the moderator for the training programme.

The training programme was attended by twenty-four mentors from different schools and communities under Peren district.
