DMC rewards cleanest colonies for six months

Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) on Saturday held an award ceremony at Circuit House, Dimapur to award the cleanest colonies for six months this year. For the month of January to June 2018 respectively, the cleanest colony awards went to NST colony, Sematilla, Aokong, United Naga Block 'B' Burma Camp, Viola colony and Imkonglenden colony. The winners of cleanest colonies were awarded with a cash prize of Rs 10,000 along with a citation.  

Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Sushil Kumar Patel, IAS pointed out that unlike other districts majorly inhabited by a single community it was difficult to mobilize diverse communities in Dimapur. In this regard, he said that the district was facing new challenges every day. He lauded the chairmen of various colonies and the communities for their participation and reminded them that Dimapur has vast potential to progress and appealed for support and cooperation from every section of the society.  

DMC administrator Moa Sangtam reiterated his appeal to the public to maintain civic sense and have a community mindset. He urged colony representatives to contribute for a clean Dimapur not for money or prize but for the future of a better Dimapur.  

"Your contribution should not be a duty but take it as a responsibility for a better future," he added.  

SDO (Civil) Dimapur Nyempo Wallim who is the convener and judge of the cleanest colony informed that from the month of September the cleanest colony competition will begin the final quarter of the competition and elimination round will begin from this month.  

For the month of September, out of more than 100 colonies in Dimapur, 30 will be selected as per their performance and in October it would be narrowed down to 20 colonies, 10 colonies in November and five in December.  

In the month of December, the cleanest colony will be declared out of the top five colonies.  

Drawing attention on the criteria for the competition, the Convenor underlined that it will be based on six criteria: garbage management, drainage management, stagnant water, road maintenance, sanitation and community participation for cleanliness.
