Dimapur, November 30 (MExN): Stressing on professionalism, Editor of Nagaland Post Geoffrey Yaden at the second day of Indian Dental Association Nagaland Sate Branch’s 10th annual general meeting cum continuing dental education on November 30 called upon the doctors present to be dedicated and competent. The programme was held at Highway-39, Go-Karting Purana Bazar in Dimapur.
Geoffrey who attended the occasion as the chief guest said that one should talk less and work more. He encouraged the doctors to keep updated with latest information related to their profession.
He also said that doctors should give equal importance whether working in private or government hospitals. “…when we practice privately we work hard but when it comes to government job we work less.” He pointed out that Nagas have dependency syndrome – expecting government to do everything. “…it is not the government that brings development, it is the people.”
Further, he suggested the doctors to conduct more free dental medical camps so that it will create awareness among the people about oral hygiene, which in turn will also help them to grow professionally.
Earlier, Geoffrey had released the souvenir of IDA Nagaland State Branch.

An Appeal
The president of IDA Nagaland State Branch Dr Imtiwabang Pongener  in his presidential address said that IDA has been making appeals to the state government to create more post for dentists so as to generate openings for the unemployed young dentist and on the other hand to cater to the requirement of the public.
He mentioned that the government had recently made sanction for five post, which is laudable, yet, it is inadequate since at present there are 21 community health centres under the Health and Family Welfare Department, where dental surgeons can be absorbed. “…I fervently appeal to the state government to give due consideration in this regard and act at the right earnest.”
Also, Dr Imtiwabang pointed out that the dental surgeons working under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) though doing a tremendous job is being neglected by the government with regard to pay enhancement and incentives. “The State Government should treat the dental surgeons working under NRHM at par with any other medical professionals as how it is being done countrywide and remunerate them equally without any bias and discrimination.”
