Dimapur, September 23 (DIPR): Union Minister for Mines and DoNER, Bijoy Krishna Handique during the ceremony of signing a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for setting up of North-East Regional Para Medical Institute at Dimapur with the financial assistance support from the North-East Council (NEC) made a commitment for setting up a Medical College in Nagaland in presence of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and his Cabinet colleagues. However, he said that it will not be possible immediately but should be in a phase-wise as there are financial constraints. Giving commitment for setting up the Medical College, he said, “People of Nagaland have the right and they have a good cause”. He said that after visiting the Christian Institute for Health and Scientific Research (CIHSR) he is convinced that the infrastructure at CIHSR has a capacity for setting up the Medical College. “There is enough land and it is a big advantage as other states does not have such advantage”, he said adding that the Institute of Para Medical will also be set up at CIHSR. Minister is optimistic that setting up of Medical College will not only benefit students’ from the state but it will also attracts students’ from the North-Eastern states as will as neighbouring countries from South-East Asia proximity to North-Eastern state.
