DPON displeased by ‘exclusion’ of Kachari tribe

Dimapur, July 1 (MExN): The Dimasa Public Organization, Nagaland (DPON) while appreciating the initiative of the Art & Culture Department to have a photography competition in commemoration of 75 years of India’s Independence, expressed unhappiness on the “exclusion” of Kachari tribe in the invitation for participation.

DPON, President, K Naben while stating displeasure over the “exclusion,” put across, “Is it the indigenous Kachari tribe not welcomed to such kind of showcasing the original design of textiles worn? It is not understood why time and again we are made to reassert our existence in Nagaland. Kachari tribe seems not desirable anymore in any departments. The Kachari in Nagaland were part of interim Government after declaration of the Statehood by option and over negligence of us time and again is unfortunate.”

Therefore, the organisation has requested the concerned department to let them “know the specific reason of the exclusion of two tribes for the competition.” It asserted that “Kachari population in our State may be shrinking but we have every right to have the privilege as any other indigenous tribe.”
